"Southern KY audio anarchists Fatbox return with another red-hot helping of their innovative brand of groove-inflected mayhem on “Wasp”. Featuring the incendiary fretwork of Murf Adams, adventurous sax playing of horn man Ryan Stiles, and quirky-cool vocals of guitarist/keyboardist Clay Powell, this unorthodox collective throws the rulebook out the window, incorporating everything from free-form jazz to jam band improv and dance-floor groove to deliver twelve tracks of unparalleled originality. If Soul Coughing, early Santana and Tower Of Power had a baby mid-wifed by Frank Zappa, it might sound like Fatbox… but probably not." -Jeffrey Sweeney

Spanning from rock to jazz and psychedelia to hip-hop with a funk-soul backbone throughout, their third studio effort shows the growth in songwriting and musicianship that only comes from years on the road and in the woodshed.
Fat Box sets out to write original songs with no parameters – heavy on the funk and soul, of course, but also incorporating bits of bluegrass, jazz, reggae, rock and more.
The results of this strange musical brew can be heard on 2014’s excellent (and amusingly titled) Meteor A’ight, a veritable education in genre-hopping – or genre-mashing, rather....Frankly, few bands would be able to pull off – or even have the nerve to attempt to pull off – such a roller coaster ride of an album. But then again, few have the chops or the chemistry of Fat Box.
The group’s admiration for the jazz infused music of New Orleans and Chicago soul have largely influenced their sound, along with artists such as Galactic, Widespread Panic, The Grateful Dead, Frank Zappa, and Parliament Funkadelic. The end result is a wide-ranging blend of music that is unique to itself at every one of their shows.
Next up, local favorites, and one of the hardest working bands in BG, Fat Box took the stage to funk things up a bit. Combining blues, jam, funk, jazz, and just about every other musical adjective in between, played on damn near every rock instrument you’ve ever seen (guitars, horns, keys, and an enviable percussion collection) these guys never fail to deliver booty shakin’, foot shufflin’ fun.
